Transformers for Construction & Mining Site Power

Construction & Mining Site Power

Industry Challenges

Construction sites and mining operations present the harshest distribution environment in electrical engineering. Distribution transformers must:

  • Withstand continuous mechanical shock and vibration from blasting, heavy machinery, and vehicle traffic.
  • Operate in extreme ambient temperatures from -40°C (Arctic mining) to +55°C (desert construction).
  • Survive aggressive atmospheres including high-dust, high-moisture, and corrosive environments.
  • Handle motor-starting inrush currents 6–8× the transformer's rated current from crushers, hoists, conveyor belts, and tunnel boring machines.

The Pain Point:

A single distribution transformer failure can halt a multi-million-dollar construction schedule or stop mineral extraction worth hundreds of thousands of dollars per day.

Construction and Mining Site Power Distribution

Our Transformer Solution

We provide ruggedized distribution transformers engineered to withstand extreme mechanical, thermal, and environmental stress for uninterrupted site power.

S13-M Series — Ruggedized Oil-Immersed

  • Reinforced mechanical design: 3mm+ thick steel tank with full-perimeter welded reinforcement ribs; heavy-duty lifting lugs rated for 4× transformer weight; seismic-qualified internal coil clamping system.
  • Extended temperature range: Special mineral oil blend with pour point below -55°C for cold-start capability; conservator-free sealed construction.
  • Motor-starting optimized: 4.5%–6.0% impedance design limits voltage dip to <15% during DOL motor starting of loads up to 60% of rating.
  • Corrosion protection package: C5-M (very high durability) marine/industrial coating system, salt-spray tested to 1,500+ hours.

SCB Series Dry-Type

  • IP54 enclosure option: Designed for underground mining galleries with conductive dust — no oil leak risk in confined underground spaces.
  • Heavy load capability: AF cooling mode provides 150% continuous overload rating — easily handles the severe load fluctuations of crushers, mills, and hoists.
  • Fire safety: Self-extinguishing epoxy resin provides zero flame propagation, eliminating the fire risk critical in confined underground spaces.
